Siranoush (Siran) Suny Kazanjian (1903 St. Petersburg, Russia-1972 Philadelphia) was the eldest child (who lived to adulthood) of Grikor Mirzaian Suni and Nvart (Natasha) Sonyants Mirzaian Suni. Siran (pronounced “See-ron”) was born while her father was studying with Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Coservatory of Music. Siran Suni sang in her father’s choruses and performed as a dancer in Suni programs. She was married to the writer Levon Kazanjian (1889 Arabkir-1982 Philadelphia), with whom she had sons Ara (Arik), Shara (Sharik, also known as Leon), and Robert. Siran Suni’s husband Levon Kazanjian was the author of the 1923 introduction of Suni to America: “Suni composed some of the sweetest lyrical pieces in the realm of Armenian music.”
